Sandalphon Capital was founded by Jonathan Ellis in May 2016. The team is supported by part-time interns, a hand-picked group of industry and tech operator advisors, and an engaged group of LPs with domain expertise across various sectors.

Jonathan Ellis

Founder & General Partner

Jonathan Ellis is the Founder and General Partner of Sandalphon Capital. Prior to founding Sandalphon in 2016, Jonathan was an active angel investor for several years, and a Senior Vice President in Macquarie’s Principal Finance Group group where he was responsible for sourcing, executing and managing investments in a wide range of industries and asset classes including technology, specialty finance, healthcare and real estate. Jonathan was a member of Macquarie Capital’s Restructuring Advisory and Special Situations group until 2009 where he was involved in private equity and debt investing, and restructuring advisory engagements. Prior to moving to Chicago in 2007, he was a member of Macquarie Capital’s Diversified Industrials Group in London and focused on private equity investments in a variety of industries.

Jonathan sits on several portfolio company boards and is also on the Board of Chicago:Blend, a non-profit focused on improving DEI within the Chicago VC and tech ecosystem. Jonathan has helped co-chair VentureNext’s mentoring program and is a member of V2:VC. He is also as a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the Chicago Club. Jonathan earned a BSc (Hons) in International Management from the University of Manchester in 2006, and a Master of Finance degree from INSEAD in 2011.

Nevin Ramanujan

Partner - Healthcare

Nevin Ramanujan is a Partner at Sandalphon Capital, focusing on early stage healthcare investing. He co-founded and managed the Health Equity investment strategy at the Tarrson Impact Fund, affiliated with the Chicago Booth School of Business.

Prior to Sandalphon, he worked in Corporate Development at Elevance Health, and had a hand in the development of Carelon through acquisitions of Aspire Health and Beacon Health Options, amongst others. He started his career in private credit, investing in middle market companies with a generalist mandate.

He holds a BBA of Business of Administration from the University of Washington and a Masters of Business Administration from the Chicago Booth School of Business.
